Sloppy Joes and kladdkaka

America meets Sweden. Mom made Sloppy Joes and Erika made kladdkaka. A good time was had by all :).

The War Against the Freezer

Well, we won, but it was a close one. Here in Sweden we do not have self defrosting freezers. Apparently. So every now and again we have to empty the fuckers and defrost their lazy asses. Since my ass is lazy too, I have not defrosted my freezer since I moved in....like two years ago....yeah. There was a fair bit of ice in there. Luckily mom is here and kicked my ass till I did it, and helped me :). If she weren't here I probably would have broken something....But now is done and freezer happy and ice free :).

Favorite glass place

I found my new favorite glass place. It used to be Bergdala, but this took the cake. And the cookies. And the plate they sat on. And the table. You get it :). It was amazing stuff! The colors were unbelievable and just gorgeous! I am so coming back in a few years when I can afford a piece of this art :). Oh yeah, the name of the place was Transjö hytta. They also have a site: www.transjohytta.se.

Hand and Foot, Småland style

Basically that means we played outside on our gigantic, gorgeous glassed in deck :). Still fun, but with more of a view than my kitchen!

Great view

Here is our view from the best cottage ever :). It was really cool with the storm clouds. Mom said if we were at home we might be worried, but here we can just enjoy it :).

Best cottage ever!

Mom and I came to the glass country for three days. We found a place on the internet and it looked cool so we booked a cottage. But holy shit! This was not just a cottage. It was big and nice and wonderful! It had two bedrooms, fireplace, kitchen, huge glassed in deck, and even a laundry room! And everything was clean and pretty and in place. Just, damn. We felt very lucky, and I am so coming back here! If anyone wants to see it you can go to www.ormeshagacountry.se. More pictures later :).

Bastet says, "I help!"

Not so much :). Mom is helping me with some of my projects, one of which is a lamp. Will put up pictures later. We got the base painted and mom is doing the shade, cause that is so beyond my level of dubious expertise! Bastet thought the best part was the extra fabric :). Siri had total opposite reaction. When she went to jump into the basket, the fabric scared her shitless and she jumped straight in the air before running like she was being chased by demons. We laughed :). She had to come back and check it out of course, minus the jumping :).

Hand and Foot

Hand and Foot is a card game, a form of canasta really. When we realized that we would be stuck inside, Mom and I stopped at the toy store for some games. We thought Hand and Foot would be fun so we got cards and Hello Kitty yahtzee as a back up :). But no back up needed. Markus and Erika loved the game! I think we played from four till eleven, only stopping for Midsummer dinner! I hope we can play again, I forgot how fun it was!

Midsummer

Well, another Midsummer has passed, and like so many before, it rained. And it was cold. Then it rained some more. Then, just when you have given up all hope, usually late evening, the damn sun comes out. Yeah.
Aside from not being able to take Mom to Kulturen to see the drunk Swedes sing about frogs while dancing around a giant penis, it was a great day. Markus and Erika came over and we had great food and great fun playing cards inside while it rained :). Mom at least got great Midsummer food!

Let's go fly a kite

Mom and I found a kite in a bag at the Danish dollar store, so of course we had to get it! It went pretty well, but the wind kind of came and went. We are going to give it another go tomorrow :).

I scream, you scream

We all scream, for ice cream...chairs. Are these not the coolest chairs ever?

Pretty chips

This was the prettiest bag of chips I've ever seen. Mom said the chips weren't too good, but the bag was pretty :).

Hello Kitty duct tape!!!

Mom brought Hello Kitty duct tape :). How cool is that?!? Tamas's office doesn't stand a chance, mwahahahaha!

I hit the mother load!

Cause my mommy is here :). And she brought me a whole suitcase of goodies! Cheese product and chemicals and preservatives, oh my! I'm so lucky to have such a nice mommy :).

Feet cheese

It was so funny I must tell everyone. The day before my roommate left to go home she was making something with feta cheese. She is always trying to get me to like it, but I tell her what I tell everyone: I don't eat stuff that smells like feet :). And then the next day we went to Malmö to get sausages to grill at work on our last day. Across the street is a store called Abdos that has all kinds of stuff imported from all over the place. And what do I see but a huge wall of feet cheese! I had to take a picture of course, and tell my roommate about the place so she can get the "real" cheese here as well. Fun yes :).

Kitty bonding

Sekhmet and Siri are having a great time so far. Siri will be here for a few weeks, and I'm hoping that she will chase Sekhmet lots and lots so Sekhmet loses some weight :). Bastet tolerates Siri pretty much. Until Siri takes her spot, then Bastet growls and hissed and teaches Siri a lesson :).

Birthday!

We were in Stockholm for Tuffe's birthday, and she had a barnkalas (kid's party). It was very fun with cool games, and I got to be the game leader :). We all got to take home balloons and a goody bag. With some grown up liquid candy as well as the regular stuff ;).

Baby orchids!

My orchids are still horny :). The first one is a new baby I found this week. The second is the baby I found before, but grown up a bit. I can't wait to see how big they get and if they make it. That would be so cool!

Naughty, naughty

This chocolate sauce has quite the innuendo ridden description on the label for being plain ole chocolate sauce. It's in Swedish so all will not understand, but it was funny :).

Mitt sommarlov

On the bus back from go carting, us teachers had to be a bit evil and play the song "Mitt sommarlov". Cause the kids won't be getting anymore summer breaks now that they are off to real life to work. Insert slightly maniacal evil laughter here. LOL. Hee hee :).

Pssssst

The cute neighborhood kitty taking nap under a tree :).

All dressed up :)

And somewhere to go...graduation of course! After the go carts it was back to school for food, photos, and sending the kids off into the sunset. Such an occasion calls for slightly fancier clothes than usual and I decided to break out one of the dresses I got from my Grandma Rose. This one I think she said was from the 70's and I chose it cause it was a bit summer-y. So fun to get all dressed up and see the kids off. Bit sad though, cause these were my first group of kids, so I've had them for three years. Time really does fly.

Super hero pose

Today it was graduation for my students. As per usual it was go carting time! Very very fun! I came in dead last of course, but still :). Plus I got to celebrate the fact that I fit into the overalls. Not even the biggest size either. It was awesome :).

Vegetarian Sekhmet?

As if my cats weren't weird enough already, Sekhmet loves cauliflower. She already had a thing for corn and pumpkin juice, so I really shouldn't be surprised. But its weird dammit!

Kitties!

Uffe is getting a new place in a month, and we got to see the outside this weekend in Stockholm. It is really nice and the view is amazing! It is Djurgården and the water you see from his new place. And in the back was the cutest seating area with the cutest little kitties :). I am jealous of course :).

Made my day :)

Last Thursday was the first of my last lesson days. I usually bring some kind of fun snack and we take it easy on the last day. And was I ever surprised when not one, not two, but three presents were waiting for me from my students! I thought I was going to cry it was so sweet :). Especially since at my other school it is not going so well, it was nice to feel happy and appreciated. Thanks to my kids in my Thursday home language :).

I'm melting, I'm melting!

Markus had slight malfuntion with his marshmellows. They melted a bit and I swear it looked like a set of balls hanging from a stick. We were all very amused of course :).

S'mores Swedish Style

We had a grill night after work and I thought it would be fun if the Swedes tried S'mores. We have marshmellows but no graham crackers or Hershey bars. So I improvised a bit with digestives and Swedish Marabou chocolate. It worked pretty well, the Swedes enjoyed it :). Will still have to try the real thing one day though.

First time grilling this year!

A couple weeks ago we christened the grill with lots of great food. It was a bit cold, and we had to eat inside, but it still counts. This is Sweden after all, we were just glad .we didn't need umbrellas and winter jackets.
