Culture Night continued with a trip to Lund University's Zoological Department. They had set it up to be like the film, Night at the Museum. So everyone got a flashlight and we got to wonder around in the dark. It was fun but we all agreed it would have been better with fewer people and flashlights all at the same time. Still fun to see all the creepy skeletons in the dark though :).
As I wrote in the previous entry, during Culture Night we stumbled on a wagon selling deep fried candy bars. I knew I couldn't have one because of my operation, but I had some handy victims nearby :). Erika and Markus got treated to a deep fried Mars bar. My attempt to bring a little Southern culture to the evening. They actually liked it! I was a bit surprised, but how fun that it went over well :).
I was at Kulturnatten in Lund getting myself culturefied when I saw several things that made me feel right at home, even all the way over here in Sweden.
The first was the Jesus bus. Stealthily disguised as a Cafe Bus at first, it soon revealed itself as the Jesus bus due to the large sign on the front.
After that I wondered a bit more, soaking up the culture reflecting off the giant Jesus bus, and ran into a food wagon that smelled familiar. It smelled like funnel cakes. It turned out to be fresh fried mini donuts. And of course, the piece de resistance, the deep fried candy bars. Stickers, Bounty, Mars. All available in deep fried goodness. All this combined with a slice of pan pepperoni pizza and I was convinced. Culture Night was definitely a way to feel at home and be less homesick. A bit stomach sick, can't eat all that crap anymore after my operation apparently, but totally worth it :).
Tamas has retaliated for the many many Hello Kitty stickers that have turned up in his office. He drew dead Hello Kitty :(. But it's ok. I will find good revenge.
Went to see movie with Anderson, Sofia, Tina, and Andreas. The movie was Vampires Suck and it was so funny!!! Especially if you are a Twilight Saga fan. All the little jokes are even more funny :).
While in line at McDonald's, Jens and I saw this license plate. NOT 700. I made the comment that it would have been funny if the numbers were a bit different. 007 instead. Then it would read "Not Double O 7". As in not James Bond. Which given the type of car makes sense. Not really James's style, after all.
Jens and I had lunch in Skrylle today. It was too windy to eat outside though :(. On the way home we saw baby goats! They were so cute :). I wish I could have a goat :(
For the non Swedish speakers this is an article about a Swedish Democrat who wrote something stupid on his blog. Also for the non Swedes, the Swedish Democrats are our far right wing immigrant not liking so much party. Anyway. On his blog he wrote that immigrants have an aggressive gene, making them more violent. Swedes of course, he continued to explain, do not have this particular gene, making them much safer. This is his argument for getting rid of immigrants. Some of us at work had to write our comments of course :). I am of course an immigrant and so are two of my colleagues, one of whom made the other comment on the article.
I am joining the Tolkien Society. It's a group that really likes Tolkien and everyone dresses up. I am going to be an elf so that I can wear all the pretty dresses :). I am also joining the Viking Society in Foteviken when I have enough money to make those clothes too. It is so much fun dressing up! My dress this time will be silver under and a black over dress tunic thing. The silver fabric is really pretty with a flower pattern. I also made a Renaissance style girdle belt and a circlet to go with it. Pictures to come. I can't wait to start making it! I can't wait to wear it!!!
Jens and I are going to start playing badminton soon. I got a racket and some birdies. I was playing around with one and decided it would make a good Bastet hat. But she wouldn't hold still and she stuck her nose in the birdie. It was so funny that I held it there for a minute and Jens took a picture :)
Sekhmet is definitely a weird kitty. She loves to hide under my laundry when it is drying. Which is so fun for me because she leaves tons of Sekhmet hairs on my clean laundry. Yay. But over the course of two days or so she has managed to slide this skirt down onto the floor where she now uses it as a napping blanket. And she gets super possessive. Here you can almost think she's hanging on to it like a security blanket! Jeez.
My co-worker and I have discovered that we do not share a fondness for Hello Kitty. I, of course, adore and worship Hello Kitty. Tamas not so much :(. So when I discovered his evil post it on my new Hello Kitty poster, it was no more Mr. Nice Melinda! Tamas got a nice visit from the Hello Kitty Sticker Fairy slash police. I thought I was being quite nice. Hello Kitty was driving a car! But no, silly man tried to cover her up! That's when he got the second sticker. Now he hasn't covered them up, but he has added post its saying "Melinda's Revenge", part one and two. I love my job :)
Well a tree branch. But the cuteness factor is the same :). I do have some bad news. The smallest baby died a couple days ago. I was quite sad but, because I had not hand fed and raised them myself this time, it was not as bad as when my little chicken died :(. But it was still sad :(. The littlest one looked a bit different than the others but I am not sure if that was why he died. But there are four happy babies still and three of them always sleep together. So cute :)
At the cat day I saw a litter box that I must absolutely have. It is top entry like mine but such a better design! The lid tips open and it has holes. And there are washable plastic liners for it. And the scoop hangs on the side. It was a bit expensive but I think it would be worth it. So much prettier!
This is a purse with cute little kittens on it. And the cute little kittens have evil red eyes. What the hell?
Erika and Markus needed lots of stuff for their new kitties so we went shopping today! We went to Vellinge and they were having cat weekend so there were tons of sales and lots of kitties to meet :). I wanted to take the little gray one home but I knew I shouldn't have any more kitties :(. Especially when in a year I might be getting a puppy :)
Someone is talking sense. I am normally not a big fan of Folkpartiet but I can agree with some of what Björklund has to say. Anyone who allows students to grade teachers should be seriously questioned and checked for mental health issues. I mean really! Like my friend Erika said, the students can grade me as soon as they themselves have studied at the teaching education for four and a half years. Either that or give me a raise so I have money to pass out candy and equip my rooms at school for naps, drinking parties and God knows what else many of my students would rather be doing. They won't learn a damn thing but I bet you donuts to dollars they would give me excellent grades.
