The Basics

Warning for rant coming up! I really really miss the Basics. I love living here in Sweden for the most part, but this is one thing that I really wish we had. I call it the Basics. It is the foodstuffs that we use all the time in the US that I just have not been able to find here. And we use these things ALL the time, never do not have them in house type of stuff. One is the saltine cracker. And no, Swedes, there is no equivalent here, I have looked, tasted, tried but no, it does not exist here. I just bought three boxes from an American store in England. But we have saltines with everything from soup to cheese to peanut butter to summer sausage to chili. I miss them! So now I will bulk buy from England. Some of the other Basics are: mushroom soup ( and no, it does not taste at all the same, the Swedish one), chicken broth in a can, Velveeta, self raising flour, Miracle Whip, vanilla extract (and again no Swedes, vaniljarom is not vanilla extract, I sorry). Especially the mushroom soup, it is in everything we make! But I like my taxes and social wonderfulness enough to just buy crackers from England I guess :).  

I got an Indian!

I love tootsie pops :). I bought some in the US this summer but am already down to my last few :(. Yes, people in the US, that was an obvious hint. Anyway, remember when we were little, we could turn in the wrapper for a free one if it had the Indian shooting a bow and arrow at a star. Cool huh?

American pizza!

Before we went to the pub yesterday, Mom and Amanda and Lori and Billy and me had pizza at Louie's, the restaurant just two doors down. It was super yummy pizza, lots of cheese and greasy pepperoni, just the way I like it!

More weird Oklahoma food

This is a sweet potato that looks like a baked potato, and those things on top? Those are marshmellows. Yep. Blek! People eat weird shit around here....

Funny "potahto"

I tried writing it the British way of saying potato. It was cool, a girl at work had one for lunch. You just throw it in the microwave like that and a few minutes later, you have a baked potato. Magic! And I had to say it the British way, cause its just ironical when its such a white trash, lower class solution to a baked "potahto" :).

Swedish liqourice

I was buying Tootsie pops the other day and saw this black salt liqourice in the candy aisle. I didn't even know we had it here. Strange :).

Swedish stuff!

Just in case I get homesick, I have some Swedish stuff to fall back on. Fisherman's Friend throat drops and Swedish fish candy :).
